The objects for which the Association was formed are:

To encourage increased participation and awareness of Team Roping as a sport within Australia and New Zealand.

To improve the image and popularity of Team Roping with the requirement that all members shall exercise good sportsmanship and professionalism at all times.

To provide different levels of competition, with consideration to the varying abilities of individual Team Ropers and to encourage their improvement.

To insure a Finals competition, where worthy awards and prize money will be available, at a Regional level and, at a National level in which all regions are encouraged to participate.

To seek funding and sponsorship, from both Government and Private sectors, as an effort towards keeping individual membership fees to a minimum and therefore affordable to the average family.

To encourage all members, irrespective of colour, creed or economic background, to learn and develop sporting skills through the development and establishment of learning pathways.

To promote opportunities for members to be involved in Regional, Interstate and International competition, thereby increasing their experience, skills and proficiency.

To identify and work towards the standardisation of coaching programs keeping in mind that the instructors are volunteers. To monitor such programs to ensure the enjoyment of the participants and to avoid unsafe and dangerous practices.

To work closely with the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC) and other international bodies to ensure that the ATRA remains a leading provider of opportunity within the sport of Team Roping for both Australia and New Zealand.
